Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim are planning for the future and have already wrapped up the first new signing for next season. The Germany U21 international David Raum will arrive from second-tier outfit SpVgg Greuther Fürth on 1 July 2021 and has signed a contract until 30 June 2025.
"David is a highly gifted and extremely fast player who possesses a strong left foot and has developed into one of the most sought-after full-backs in Germany this season thanks to his outstanding performances. We're absolutely delighted that he sees the next steps in his development in Hoffenheim, especially given that he was not short of suitors," said Alexander Rosen, the TSG director of football, who added "that it is especially important in operationally challenging situations from an to think strategically and make important decisions for the future".
Raum played almost exclusively in attacking positions at youth level and in his early professional career. But after his conversion to a wide defensive role in the 2018/19 season, he has made a name for himself as an attacking full-back and debuted in this position for the Germany U21 team in November 2020. The Nuremberg native, who came through the youth ranks at SpVgg Greuther Fürth and made 20 professional appearances for the Franconian club in the 2017/18 campaign while aged just 19, has now made a total of 79 competitive appearances in the second tier and the DFB Cup. During that time, he has notched five goals and 14 assists.
