Reading will be looking to back up their recent victory over Blackburn Rovers by securing a positive result in their showdown with Middlesbrough this weekend.

The Royals produced an incredibly impressive performance against Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side on Wednesday as goals from Tom McIntyre, Junior Hoilett and Lucas Joao sealed a 3-0 win.

Currently eighth in the Championship standings, Reading will be confident in their ability to deliver the goods at the Select Car Leasing Stadium as they have picked up maximum from both of their home fixtures this season.

As for Middlesbrough, they have yet to win a game in the second-tier during the current campaign despite showing some signs of promise under the guidance of manager Chris Wilder.

Boro were seemingly set to secure all three points in their recent meeting with Stoke City after taking a 2-1 lead in this particular fixture.

However, Middlesbrough were forced to settle for a draw at the bet365 Stadium as D’Margio Wright-Phillips netted an equaliser for the Potters in the 91st minute.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, David Prutton has opted to share a score prediction.

In his latest Sky Sports column, Prutton has revealed that he believes that it will be a 2-2 draw.

The Verdict

Reading will be looking to defy Prutton’s prediction by sealing their third league victory of the season in this particular fixture.

Whereas the Royals will need to be wary of the threat that Middlesbrough will pose in this fixture, they will be confident in their ability to secure a positive result in front of their own supporters.

In order to have the best chance of defeating Boro, Reading will need Joao to be firing on all cylinders in Saturday’s clash.

After helping his side avoid relegation to the Championship last season by finding the back of the net on 10 occasions at this level, Joao marked his return to action in midweek with a goal against Blackburn.

Having illustrated during his time at Reading that he is more than capable of delivering the goods in the second-tier, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if the 28-year-old delivers another eye-catching display this weekend.
