Leicester City will be looking to extend their lead over their promotion rivals with a win at fellow Midlands club Stoke City this afternoon.

The Foxes have been magnificent throughout the campaign, even if they have had a couple of slip-ups.

Their 3-1 victory over Swansea City in midweek took them one step closer to securing a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, something that has to be their key aim despite the fact were unable to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window.

The important thing for them is the fact they retained their star players, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall staying put at the King Power Stadium despite being linked with numerous Premier League clubs during the latter stages of the window.

They may have lost Cesare Casadei, but they should have enough squad depth to cope without the Italian, who did make a positive impact but may not be hugely missed considering he received some criticism during his time at Enzo Maresca's side.

Stoke, meanwhile, did strengthen their squad with Daniel Iversen, Luke Cundle, Million Manhoef and Niall Ennis all arriving in Staffordshire.

Strengthening several areas of their squad, the Potters can be confident that they can secure a respectable league finish at the end of this term, but they may not be able to secure three points this afternoon despite their home advantage.

Stoke are the hosts in this clash and that will give them hope that they can give the Foxes a tough game.

However, Leicester have excellent squad quality and depth, and have been the best team in the division this term in terms of results and consistency.

Coventry City's home win against Maresca's side last month will give Stoke hope, but Prutton believes the Foxes will secure a 3-1 away victory this afternoon, making this prediction in his Sky Sports column.

That would be a further boost for the Foxes as they look to secure first place and the league title.

A Stoke City win would be a real statement of intent against Leicester City

Considering the strength of Leicester's squad, it would be a real statement of intent if Stoke won today.

The Foxes aren't invincible and that has been displayed on a few occasions this term.

But if Stoke did manage to get a win, it would probably be more impressive than Coventry's win because the Foxes were down to ten men for a chunk of the game at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Even a draw wouldn't be a bad thing for the Potters this afternoon.
