Stoke City will be hoping to continue their excellent home form against Barnsley on Wednesday night.

The Potters have been victorious in all three of their home games thus far, defeating Huddersfield Town, Reading, and Nottingham Forest in the process.

Michael O’Neill’s side face Barnsley, who are now without a win in their last four games.

The Tykes’ heaviest defeat of the season came on Saturday, with the Yorkshire club losing 3-0 to Bournemouth.

Stoke, who are currently on 13 points from their opening six games, have lost just the single game, and that was against newly-relegated club Fulham, who occupy second place in the table.

It seems that The Tykes still find themselves in a transitional period after the highs of last year, and the departures of Valerien Ismael and talismanic figure, Alex Mowatt.

Sky Sports EFL pundit David Prutton has predicted that The Potters will continue their impressive start to the campaign with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday.

The verdict

It is certainly a scoreline that reflects current events, but Barnsley have shown that they are still tough competitors, bar Saturday’s defeat.

The Tykes are playing attractive football, but they are not creating enough chances in the final third.

Stoke are a team with confidence. Possessing a youthful backline, Stoke are a difficult team to break down, and the young players they do have in their starting line ups, are all competent defenders, who have the ability on the ball to match.

Whilst Prutton’s 2-0 prediction is certainly a score that could come true, a tighter 1-0 victory for The Potters might best suit.
