The former West Ham and Everton boss also turned down Celtic in 2016 before he signed on at Sunderland.

In fact, Moyes told Scottish publication Record Sport two years ago that he held talks with Peter Lawwell. However, he walked away from the chance to return because he wanted to stay in the Premier League.

Moyes began his professional playing career at Celtic and was asked if he’d be open to going back to Glasgow to manage either side of the Old Firm.

“Yeah, I would be. I’ve been close to a few of them once or twice and thought about it a lot. I would be.

“It’s my home and I’d like to come back and do it sometime, but while the Premier League’s so strong, that would probably still remain my interest.”

However, with Brendan Rodgers under contract at seven-time Celtic for three more years and Steven Gerrard off to a cracking start at Rangers, the likelihood of a Glasgow return is unlikely.

Earlier in the year, Moyes said he “definitely” had interest in managing Scotland before Alex McCleish took over.

Moyes has also recently expressed his desire to manage in the United States, whether for club or country.
