Thiago Alcantara and Alisson Becker are “both almost certain” to miss Liverpool’s clash against Arsenal tonight, according to David Maddock from the Mirror.
Maddock wrote that both Thiago and Alisson could miss the game at Anfield because of respective injuries.
A win for the Reds against the Gunners will mean they have won their opening three games of the 2020-21 Premier League season.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Liverpool will miss Thiago and Alisson if they are not fit enough to feature against Arsenal.
Alisson won the FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award in 2019. That does provide an insight into how good Alisson is.
With that being the case, Liverpool will miss their No.1 goalkeeper against Arsenal if he is not fit enough to play.
It would be fair to assume that Adrian, Liverpool’s No. 2 goalkeeper, will play if Alisson is not fit enough.
In regards to Thiago, he would also be a big loss if he is not fit enough to play. Thiago only played 45 minutes against Chelsea in the Premier League just over a week ago, but he was running the game.
To back that particular argument up, according to Planet Football, “since passing data became available in 2003, Thiago’s 75 successful passes [against Chelsea] are the most by a Premier League player who played a maximum of 45 minutes”.
The only positive in regards to Thiago’s injury is that Liverpool do have plenty of back-up options in midfield. The likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Curtis Jones are available to replace the Spaniard.
