On Monday, Flamengo defender David Luiz began his on-field recovery phase as he hopes to return and be an important player for the crucial stretch run.
The Brazil international is recovering well and he is coming ever so close to returning.
The current forecast is that the defender will be at the disposal of Renato Gaúcho on October 30th, when Flamengo faces Atlético-MG in a hugely decisive Brasileirão contest at the Maracanã.
That would mean David Luiz will miss both legs of the Copa do Brasil semi-finals against Athletico Paranaense.
The former Chelsea player was injured on September 29th in the match against Barcelona, when they secured a 2-0 second-leg win which gave them a 4-0 aggregate victory and pushed them through to the Copa Libertadores final.
David was only playing his second game when he felt pain at the beginning of the game and ended up being substituted. Later, an examination found an injury in the adductor on his left thigh.
While he continues to miss time, Rodrigo Caio and Léo Pereira will make up the Flamengo back-line. Though Rodrigo Caio missed out over the weekend, he should be able to step back in for Bruno Viana on Wednesday.
