Brazilian defender David Luiz is synonymous for his trademark curly hair but has unveiled a brand new look at the age of 35.

The centre-back, perhaps best known for his spells at Premier League clubs Chelsea and Arsenal, revealed his new hairstyle days after winning the Copa Libertadores (South America’s equivalent of the Champions League) with Flamengo.

Luiz became only the 13th player to win both the Champions League and Copa Libertadores, following in the footsteps of stars including Cafu, Carlos Tevez and Ronaldinho.

Gabriel Barbosa’s goal on the stroke of half-time was enough to earn Flamengo victory over Athletico Paranaense in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Presumably to celebrate Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores triumph, Luiz has moved away from his iconic Sideshow Bob hairstyle.

Prior to Wednesday night’s league clash against Corinthians, Luiz posted photos of himself with dyed blonde hair to his Instagram story.

And his new bleach-blonde hair was on show at the Maracana as the two sides warmed up.

Thor, is that you?

It’s currently unclear whether this will be Luiz’s permanent new look.

Will David Luiz be part of Brazil’s 2022 World Cup squad?

Despite helping Flamengo win the Copa Libertadores, Luiz is not expected to be part of Brazil’s squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Five-time winners Brazil, who head into the tournament as one of the strong favourites, are expected to line up with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos as their two first-choice centre-backs.

Luiz has won 57 caps for his national team, scoring three goals, but has not played regularly for the Selecao under head coach Tite since 2017.
