Seven different players got themselves on the scoresheet as the Hoops matched their opening day result against the Links Park side.

Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Celtic coach David Haley was pleased to see the goals continue to spread throughout the squad.

Although there were aspects of the performance Haley thought the Celts could improve upon, he was hesitant to be critical following another terrific result in Airdrie.

He said: “We are pleased with the overall result. To get nine goals, you’d have to be pleased in any game obviously.

“There was maybe one or two wee things in our game that we could improve or tidy up on a bit. Some of our distribution could have been a little bit better.

‘But it’s great to get the nine goals and I can’t be overly critical. To get those nine goals and three points is the most important thing.’

“That has always been the case with our team. We have got so many different goal scorers and so many different ways of scoring. It was good to see that out there today again.”

Sunday afternoon’s result leads the Ghirls nicely into another huge week in the season as they gear up for Friday’s huge Sky Sports Cup semi-final clash against Rangers.

Following on from the 9-0 win over Montrose, it is back to the hard work on the training ground for the squad who will have their eyes on a place in the final as they take on their Glasgow rivals.

This week will also mark new boss Elena Sadiku’s first week in charge, and Haley is looking forward to seeing the positive impact which the 30-year-old will bring around the club.

“Now it’s a big week ahead,” he said. “It’s obviously an important game coming up against Rangers on Friday night.

“So the girls will prepare as normal and obviously we have Elena starting on Monday. I’m sure she will come in and make a positive impact.”
