David De Gea’s return to football got off to a horror start on Thursday.
After 14 months away, the former Manchester United goalkeeper signed for Serie A side Fiorentina. However, his debut will be one to forget.
Fiorentina shockingly drew 3-3 in the first leg of their Conference League play-off at home to Hungarian outfit Puskás Akadémia with the Spaniard in the net.
It only took 12 minutes for a side from a village of only 2,000 people to take a 2-0 lead over the Serie A giants.
Zsolt Nagy scored from the penalty spot before Mikael Soisalo rolled a second home beyond the diving goalkeeper in the blink of an eye.
Fiorentina thought they turned things around with minutes to go as Moise Kean’s first goal in over a year flipped the game into a 3-2 score line.
That was until a thumping Wojciech Golla header beat a flailing De Gea to end all-square. A rough start to life in purple after 446 days out.
