Manchester United are considering whether to trigger David de Gea’s contract extension option, according to The Telegraph.

De Gea has nine months left on his current deal at Old Trafford but United can extend it until 2024. United’s wage bill reached a Premier League record of £384 million last season.

They are currently assessing their long-term goalkeeping plan, which could see the former Atlético Madrid netminder leave.

In 2019, the Spaniard signed a new deal worth in excess of £350,000 per week, although that was reduced after United failed to finish in the top four last season.

The club now have a decision over the coming months over extending the 32-year-old’s deal by another year.

United manager Erik ten Hag backed De Gea publicly after the Brentford mistakes, insisting: “I am convinced that he can do it.”

According to the report, Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has clubs monitoring his situation as he will have just one season left on his contract at the end of the current season.
