Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has equalled Peter Schmeichel’s clean sheet record for the club.

He kept out Leicester City today – his 180th clean sheet in 521 appearances for United since joining the club in 2011.

Today’s shut-out was also De Gea’s 140th in the Premier League and tenth this season. He has been in fine form after struggling in recent campaigns.

De Gea, United’s Players’ Player of the Year, will hope to break and extend his lead at the top of the records table in subsequent games.

A week ago, De Gea became the youngest goalkeeper in Premier League history to rack up 400 appearances. He did it aged 32 years and 97 days.

The former Atletico Madrid goalie is the fourth Man United player to make 400 Premier League appearances after Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville.

De Gea pulled off top saves to keep United in the game against the Foxes today. One in particular from a Kelechi Iheanacho stood out.

Marcus Rashford then scored to give United the lead before half-time. The Englishman doubled his tally after the break before Jadon Sancho completed the victory.

Rashford broke his scoring record with his double. His tally is now up to 24 this season, beating his personal best of 22 goals in the 2019/20 campaign.

United manager Erik ten Hag will be proud of the performance his side produced against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

They were under early pressure, and De Gea had to make a 1v1 save against Harvey Barnes before denying Iheanacho.

Despite a poor first half, United turned things around and won emphatically at Old Trafford.

They will hope to follow up when they welcome Barcelona for the second leg of their Europa League play-off tie this week.
