A third round of negotiations between Bayern Munich and the entourage of defender David Alaba took place in a secret meeting on Friday, according to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk.

Per the report, the Bundesliga side offered Alaba a new five-year contract but have taken a strong stance on the Austrian’s salary. Club bosses have agreed to offer a base salary of €11m plus a further €6m in bonuses. However, Alaba wants to be among one of the top earners at the club.

With less than one-year remaining on his current contract, the Austria international is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club from January.

Alaba has become an integral player for Bayern Munich after joining their youth squad in 2008. The 28-year-old has gone on to play 393 games in all competitions, playing under world class coaches such as Louis van Gaal, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti and Jupp Heynckes. The 2019/20 season saw Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick move Alaba into central defence to accommodate Alphonso Davies at left-back, the switch has seen the Austrian further develop his playing style.
