A report by Football.london mentions that the FA Cup 4th round tie between Chelsea and Luton Town has been assigned a date. It will be played on 24th January this weekend at Stamford Bridge.
The match kicks off at noon this Sunday and will be broadcasted on BBC One. Chelsea’s previous FA Cup tie was only available for digital streaming.
The Blues beat 4th-tier side Morecambe 4-0 in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.
It is also revealed that the winners of the 4th round will receive £67,500 from the FA, while the losing club will get £22,500.
The date of the game means that Chelsea will have very little time to rest before their Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.
Whether Frank Lampard decides to rest key players in the FA Cup remains to be seen. Luton play in the Championship and are placed 14th in the table.
However, they are just 7 points away from the playoffs and could be a tricky opponent on their day. Nevertheless, Lampard would feel he has a more than able squad at his disposable to deal with the fixtures coming up.
Before Luton, Chelsea are scheduled to play Fulham this Saturday, and Leicester City on Tuesday night. Lampard would know that these two games are massively important now.
Chelsea have fallen to 9th in the table after 4 losses from their last 6 games. The team would know that their focus should be on the upcoming league matches before they can start to dream of a cup run.
