Liverpool cruised past quite comfortably against Crystal Palace at home in the Premier League on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp had an injury-ridden camp last season and keeping that in mind rested quite a few players in the team. Joel Matip was rested while Ibrahima Konate , signed from RB Leipzig this summer, made his debut.
Konate had a very impressive outing in front of the home fans while Liverpool kept their fourth clean sheet in five matches. We look at some stats to analyse his debut further.
Ibrahimo Konate completed 73.33% of his defensive actions successfully during the match. He was extremely comfortable in the air using his height and won 66.67% of the aerial duels.
He stayed most of the time in his own half defending in a two vs one situation always with Virgil van Dijk and had only 1.89 recoveries in the opposition half while having 5.68 recoveries per 90 as a whole.
Konate won only four duels during the match twice inside the box , one in the defensive third and one higher up the pitch.
We can see above the balls intercepted by him during the match. Most of the interceptions have been inside the box where he has taken the ball off players cleanly without giving away any foul or penalty. He is young but he has been really clinical throughout the match.
Konate played on the right side of the defence but spent most of his time near the centre line because of Liverpool’s high press and playing style of winning ball high up the pitch. the red area in the heatmap certifies that.
He played most of his passes in the defensive third and in the midfield. Most of his passes were played to van Dijk and Milner while he tried to open Salah over the top with a long ball. He is really calm and composed on the ball.
Ibrahima Konate had a really impressive debut on Saturday and under a manager like Jurgen Klopp he has got a lot of scope to improve in the future.
