West Bromwich Albion striker Daryl Dike has explained that his time spent injured on the sidelines has only further fuelled his desire and hunger for success.

Dike signed for Albion during the January transfer window, but got injured in just his second West Brom appearance.

That injury would keep the 22-year-old out for the rest of the campaign, but it sounds as though he is raring to go ahead of the 2022/23 Championship season.

“I think not playing football for a very long time is something that has fuelled my hunger, fuelled my desire.” Dike told WBA club media.

“Mentally, I’m a competitor, I love to play all the time, I enjoy playing.

“To sit on the sidelines and watch every single game, itching to play, knowing that I’m so close to be able to play is one thing, and of course you always want to help them, help the squad, help the guys.

“Being able to see how hard they’re working and training, see what they’re doing on the pitch and stuff like that – I want to contribute, I want to help, I want to do something that you desire.

Literally 99% of West Brom supporters should be scoring 28/28 on this Baggies quiz – Can you?

“So now being put in a position to do that is something that I’m so happy and thankful for.”

Indeed, Dike will be like a new signing when the Baggies get next season underway.

Alongside recent signings Jed Wallace and John Swift, West Brom are set to have an exciting attacking force next campaign.

West Brom get their season underway with an away trip to Middlesbrough on July 30th.

The Verdict

Daryl Dike sounds as though he has been chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch.

That comes as no surprise, too, with his injury hitting at a horrible time.

The forward had just made such an exciting transfer, and to have his progress halted so suddenly was a cruel twist of fate.

Next season, though, he has the opportunity to put the last few months behind him and it will be very exciting to see how he gets on in what is looking a strong West Brom side.
