Daryl Dike has had a hugely frustrating time with injuries at the Hawthorns.
Daryl Dike was signed at West Bromwich Albion with high hopes in January 2022 from Orlando City. His injury situation at the club, though, has led to him admitting that he is embarrassed.
After a really positive loan spell at Barnsley during the second half of the 2020/21 season, when Valerein Ismael's side defied expectations to reach the Championship play-offs, the Frenchman ensured that the American was one of his first signings at the Hawthorns.
However, having now played under a multitude of Albion managers, Dike has had a very underwhelming time in the West Midlands, and that is mostly due to injuries.
In those three and a half years that he has been contracted to West Brom, the USMNT striker has only made 43 appearances, scoring nine goals in the process.
Dike has spent 364 days and then 369 days out in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons alone - but they were down to serious injuries.
Taking to his TikTok account, Dike stated that he was 'upset' and that he has been 'angry' over what happened, which was him suffering a thigh injury in training earlier this month that leaves him unavailable until after the September international break.
In what was a very open and honest post, Dike stated to feeling 'embarrassed' as to how many injuries he has had recently, with that preventing him from getting a regular look-in at a starting spot in the West Midlands.
In a video that appeared to have been filmed in the United States, Dike went on to say that he was 'keeping to [my] self', which he stated was not his usual personality - further emphasising how this injury nightmare has taken a toll on him not only professionally but also mentally and personally.
Hi guys, what's up? Just popping up to say what's up! I haven't been posting on here for a little bit and social media in general. It's a little bit just because I've been a little bit upset. I'm not going to lie - in fact, pretty, pretty upset, just because I'm sure if you don't know by now, you probably can guess what happened, unfortunately. But yeah, I think that I've not posted on anything because I've been sad and keeping to myself etc., which is weird because usually I'm someone who's very social. I'm usually very happy and smiley and things like that because I love being around people, and I've been kind of ducked off to myself recently. Yeah, I've probably been a little bit embarrassed just because of things, you know - how many times this has happened, how many times I've been injured etc., and I've just kind of let that get to me, and I've been too embarrassed to post on anything or what not. I see comments and stuff like that, so that makes me feel a bit upset and a bit embarrassed sometimes. But, at the end of the day, I've realised that I need to stop being sad. I'm tired of being sad, I'm tired of being upset. I love using social media, I love talking to people, I love making videos, I love doing stuff and I love smiling - and I hate being upset. And I think now, having this sort of realisation that instead of just focusing on being upset, there are different things to be happy about. And yeah, I kind of rambled, but basically, long story short, I'm going to try and start posting on here again, try and be happy and try and be myself a little bit more. Because you know, you can't be wasting time in this life, you've got to be a little bit happy, you've got to find good things in life and what not, so yeah, I'm going to be posting again, and I'll see you soon.
When Dike is fit, then there is no doubting the American's talent, as he scored nine goals in 22 appearances for the Tykes in his really positive loan spell in South Yorkshire, adding to eight goals in the same number of games for Orlando City.
However, after a relatively positive opening year at the Albion, he ruptured his right achilles tendon against Stoke City in April 2023. That made him be out for almost a year, and only five games after being back, he tore his left achilles against Ipswich Town in February 2024, which forced him to be out until February 2025.
He started and scored against Luton Town on the final day of last season, and Ryan Mason surely would've really welcomed his return to the Albion's striking department for this season.
However, this new injury has come at an awful time for him personally, and he will no doubt be desperate to get back into Mason's plans for a starting berth when he is back fit after the September international break.
