Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez will not take part in Uruguay’s upcoming international fixtures after suffering an injury scare in the 4-3 FA Cup quarter final defeat to Manchester United, it has emerged.
Reds boss Jürgen Klopp indicated that the forward suffered a hamstring injury in the loss.
“Now the boys go on international duty, we hope they come back healthy,” he told the media in the aftermath. “Lucho [Diaz] felt his groin, Darwin hamstring. Cody twisted his ankle. They play again in four or five days, it’s crazy.”
However, it appears that Núñez has avoided serious injury, though it is still reported that he will stay at Melwood rather than join up with his international teammates for the March internationals.
Uruguay face games against the Basque country and the Ivory Coast in the coming days. Liverpool fans will be hoping that Núñez is fit enough for their first game after the break, when they take on Brighton.
