Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was involved in a distasteful clash with Colombia fans after Uruguay were knocked out of the 2024 Copa America.

The 25-year-old started the match but was ineffective up front, and Colombia’s goal via Jefferson Lerma was enough to decide the semi-final fixture. Colombia place Argentina in the final.

However, things turned violent as fans of the South American nations clashed in the stands. The players on the pitch were also engaged with each other.

Nunez was spotted being restrained as he set up to punch a fan. He was also filmed wielding a chair. The incidents do not bode well for his future at Anfield.

Nunez’s struggles at the club have been well-documented, and his profligacy in front of goal is a constant source of debate.

There were doubts about whether he should be leading the line for Liverpool heading into the new season, but this fiasco could cement his fate.

A lengthy suspension could disrupt Liverpool’s pre-season preparations and potentially force the club to look elsewhere for a reliable goalscorer.

The club might have to take a loss after spending £85 million to sign Nunez two years ago. No one will pay a sum close to that for the wasteful striker.

Nunez’s struggles on the pitch were concerning, but his off-field actions are a whole different level of worry.

New manager Arne Slot has been described as a stickler for discipline. He famously refused to train youth players who flunked school, demonstrating his zero-tolerance approach to unprofessional behaviour.

No manager wants a ticking time bomb in their locker room, especially one who could disrupt team chemistry and morale.

The 45-year-old will not appreciate Nunez’s actions and could force the club to sell the player.

Nunez’s future at Liverpool hangs in the balance, and the club is in a sticky situation. This brawl could be the final nail in the coffin for him.
