Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has revealed that Dennis Adeniran is set to train alongside his team-mates tomorrow ahead of the club’s upcoming clashes with Peterborough United and Bolton Wanderers.

The midfielder was left out of the Owls’ match-day squad for their showdown with Charlton Athletic yesterday after producing a superb individual performance in the League Cup last week.

Adeniran helped Wednesday secure a 2-0 victory over Sunderland by scoring a fantastic goal and providing an assist for Sylla Sow at Hillsborough.

In the absence of Adeniran, Moore opted to deploy Barry Bannan, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Will Vaulks in the heart of midfield against Charlton.

Wednesday scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the 81st minute of this fixture as substitute Tyreeq Bakinson headed home from Josh Windass’ cross.

As a result of this 1-0 victory, the Owls climbed up to second in the League One standings.

Making reference to Adeniran, Moore admitted that the midfielder was not included in the club’s squad for Saturday’s game as he didn’t want to take any risks on him.

Speaking to The Star following his side’s meeting with the Addicks, Moore said: “We had to leave Dennis out because he came back in the week and played the game and had to be managed…

“He’ll be back in Monday, ready to go and ready to train.

“He had an exceptional game in the week, him and Tyreeq, but we had to manage him rather than taking any risks.”

The Verdict

When you consider that Adeniran missed the closing stages of the previous campaign due to injury, Wednesday will not want to see him suffer another setback and thus leaving him out of yesterday’s game turned out to be the right call.

With the Owls set to face Peterborough on Tuesday, Adeniran will be determined to showcase his talent in this particular fixture.

Having recorded an impressive WhoScored match rating of 8.66 against Sunderland in the League Cup, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if the midfielder makes a difference for Wednesday in their upcoming games.

By maintaining his fitness as well as his consistency this season, Adeniran could potentially end up playing a key role in the Owls’ push for automatic promotion.
