Bristol Rovers are preparing for their first season in League Two since the 2021/22 campaign.

The Gas picked up just one point from their final 10 games to ultimately end up finishing in 22nd last term, and were subsequently relegated from the third tier.

Rovers have re-appointed Darrell Clarke as their manager to lead them forward next season, after dismissing former boss Inigo Calderon following their dismal end to the season.

The summer window is huge for Clarke and Co. as they aim to try and reclaim the Gas’ League One status. Having already added Jack Sparkes to their ranks, Football League World exclusively revealed that the club are set to sign right-back Macauley Southam-Hales.

Darrell Clarke warned against "nightmare" Bristol Rovers transfer scenario

Football League World’s Bristol Rovers fan pundit, Ziggy Carter, has outlined the 'nightmare' scenario the Gas must avoid this summer.

“I think buying and upgrading our squad with players that have injury problems would be a nightmare scenario,” stated Ziggy. “I think it's one of the big reasons we went down last season.

“We didn't have the squad depth with injuries that occurred across the season. I think bringing in these players who are really promising but have injuries would not be good because we've seen what happened last season when we had three, four, five injuries. It really affected the team and especially the performance on the pitch.

“Another cause for concern I'd say is not bringing in senior pros. I think we need a few more after James Wilson has left. Scott Sinclair got released, Jack Hunt got released - these are all senior pros from last season.

“We need to replace them because going into a season with such a young squad in League Two would not benefit us.”

Bristol Rovers must replace their outgoing experience

As referenced by Ziggy, Bristol Rovers have lost a huge deal of experience this summer with the likes of Wilson, Sinclair and Hunt all exiting the Memorial Stadium.

Although a squad refresh will likely come as a welcome change for most Rovers’ supporters, Clarke must be careful that he doesn’t dispose of too much proven talent this summer.

Experience goes a long way in the fourth-tier, as players who have dealt with the trials and tribulations that 46 games of League Two football bring can help spearhead a competitive dressing room.

Therefore, even if Bristol Rovers’ new boss is keen to completely reset his squad, he must do so in a cautious manner that doesn’t risk the club’s Football League status.
