Matteo Darmian warns Atletico Madrid do not just defend and counter, as they ‘play good football’ and Inter must be focused in tonight’s clash.

It kicks off at San Siro at 20.00 GMT.

The second leg of this Champions League Round of 16 tie will be at the Wanda Metropolitano on March 13.

“It is going to be a complicated match, but we want to do well, we prepared carefully and want to bring home the victory,” Darmian told Inter TV.

Alvaro Morata is only fit for a spot on the bench after spraining his knee on February 11, so Marcos Llorente starts upfront with Antoine Griezmann.

Darmian is often chosen for the right flank during the toughest fixtures, as he provides more tactical balance and defensive strength than Denzel Dumfries.

Atleti coach Diego Simeone is famous for his defend and counter tactics, but Darmian insists that is an out-dated view of his teams.

“We must be wary, because Atletico Madrid are a great team with quality players. I don’t think that Atletico are just about defence, they play good football and we need to be very concentrated.”

Francesco Acerbi and Juan Cuadrado are out of action, so Stefan de Vrij steps into the back three for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
