Danny Mills hit out at Cristiano Ronaldo after he walked down the tunnel early during Manchester United’s 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils produced a superb display on Wednesday night as they dominated their opponents at Old Trafford.

Spurs were put under massive pressure in the first half, but Hugo Lloris’ outstanding saves kept the scoreline 0-0.

However, Fred broke the deadlock immediately after the break, firing a deflected shot past the keeper.

Bruno Fernandes curled a brilliant finish in the 69th minute to decide the game in favour of the home side.

Ronaldo, who started against Newcastle United last weekend, was dropped to the bench. When it became clear he wouldn’t even be given a cameo appearance, the 37-year-old walked off down the tunnel before full-time.

Mills was furious with the Portuguese’s behaviour and called that a ‘selfish act.’

The former Manchester City defender told Sky Sports: “If Ronaldo has done that, it’s an absolute disgrace.

“They are winning 2-0 – what complaint can he have? If they were losing 2-0, it wouldn’t be right, but I would sort of understand it.

“He clearly thinks he’s bigger than the football club. It’s a selfish act after not being involved.

“He knows full well that everybody is going to see him walk all the way down the touchline at Old Trafford – it’s not like he can sneak out.

“I feel sorry for United and Ten Hag because it’s all going to be about Ronaldo instead of an outstanding performance against a top side.”

Ronaldo is frustrated because he is not getting enough game time. He has started only two Premier League matches this season, with Erik ten Hag preferring Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial up front.

No one can blame the Dutch boss considering the experienced forward’s recent performances. Ronaldo has started all four Europa League matches but has scored just once.

There is no doubt that Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers of all time. But Ten Hag cannot give him a place in the team if he is out of form.
