Nathan Redmond has not enjoyed his greatest season as a professional, but according to Danny Ings, that has not prevented the winger from showing off his quality.

Despite signing a new contract over the summer and starting 16 Premier League matches, Redmond has only scored once and has yet to provide an assist this season.

However, Ings quickly pointed out it’s not just what he contributes to the attack that sets him apart from others.

“Redders has got absolute quality and everybody knows that. But the stuff he did off the ball today was unbelievable,” Ings said after the match.

“You see him sprinting back in the last few minutes and things like that help the team just as much as creating chances.

“It’s a credit to him and he works his socks off every day and he’s very, very important for us.”

Last season, Redmond scored nine goals and contributed six assists in 43 matches in all competitions.

Southampton will now prepare for their Boxing Day clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
