Chelsea’s January transfer window is about to begin, and it’s going to be a season of outgoings rather than signings.
The Blues finished off the summer window by getting rid of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from their midfield at the last moment, and they will start the winter window the same way, dumping Danny Drinkwater from their reserves off to Kasimpasa in Turkey.

DD has had a couple of disappointing Premier League loans recently – to Burnley and to Aston Villa – and wasn’t able to make an impact. In Turkey he can play at a lower level, and hopefully at least rack up some minutes on the pitch, rather than rotting in the reserves at Cobham.
Once he’s gone, there will still be plenty left to shift to make room in Frank Lampard’s squad, but it’s a start. It just feels like having Drinkwater around brings bad vibes, and we’re happy to pack him off to sunnier climes ASAP.
