Napoli have suffered an unexpected blow on the transfer market, as Danilo has decided to go back to Brazil, with Flamengo as the frontrunners to capture him. They were confident to the point that they had shifted their focus toward the future, tabling a robust bid to sign Pietro Comuzzo next summer. Fiorentina rejected it, but they won’t give up, Sky reports.
Napoli proposed €20M for the starlet, but Fiorentina repelled them. The Azzurri will make further attempts, as they hold him in high regard for his present level and potential. Plus, they would like to add further Italian players.
The 19-year-old has broken out this season with Raffaele Palladino at the helm. The new coach quickly made him a linchpin of the rearguard even though he had played just six times last season. He has outshined newcomer Marin Pongracic and logged 22 appearances so far, earning his maiden Italy call-up.
They might go for another veteran or just block Rafa Marin now. They’ll inevitably need to be deeper next season due to the cups, and it’ll be fascinating to see how Antonio Conte handles the rotation. The prodigy has had a little dip lately, mostly due to Fiorentina’s collective slump, but he’s a surefire prospect and is already excellent given his age. The Viola are in the driver’s seat to keep him, which they should do, since he has a long-term contract, which will have to be touched up soon enough, but they have cashed in on more than a few stars throughout the years.
