“To beat Milan, excellence was needed, almost perfection because they are very strong and played two excellent games. A lot of intensity and heart were needed because once there were 10 players left, an intense but intelligent match was needed.”

“My players were excellent tonight. I’m so proud to be coach of this team,” he added.

“We never suffered too much apart from the last 15 minutes of the first leg. They did well on the first leg, but on the return leg we started well. When you shut down a team in the area for 50 minutes you can’t talk about playing a bad game. In recent years, Milan had always beaten us but that’s the beauty of it, being able to play on equal terms against them.”

“Mancini has incredible technique. I’m happy to see the goal again because I didn’t understand a lot when it happened. We always want to attack the empty space from everyone apart from the goalkeeper. Everyone must occupy a space further forward once the ball has been released.”

“Mancini loves attacking. He loves watching the ball land in his feet. He’s amazing,” said De Rossi.
