Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy “is jumping for joy” after Jose Mourinho’s appointment at AS Roma.

That is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the shock announcement on Tuesday afternoon.

Mourinho was appointed the new manager of the Italian giants on a three-year deal, starting next season, just two weeks after his dismissal from Spurs.

According to The Telegraph, the 58-year-old’s move to Roma will save Spurs £13million in severance pay.

Phillips claimed he is unsurprised to see ‘The Special One’ jump straight back into management given his love for the game.

“Daniel Levy is jumping for joy,” he told Football Insiders Dylan Childs. ‘He’s saved himself a fortune there.

“I am not overly surprised because he loves football, you can hear that in his interviews. If he had an opportunity I always thought he would jump straight back in. He loves football and Roma are a very big club.

“He has jumped straight back on the horse and credit to him because lots of managers would take a break.

“It’s fantastic news for Tottenham though because it saves them upwards of £10million.”

Meanwhile, Spurs’ hunt for Mourinho’s successor is still ongoing, with a new manager not likely to be appointed before the end of the season.
