Speaking ahead of the match, the Leeds United boss wants to see his side show a positive reaction after defeat to Queens Park Rangers last time out.

He said: “Obviously we were all disappointed after Friday night and the outcome there [at QPR].

“After analysing the game, speaking about the things and being able to work on the training pitch, it always helps.

“Since the beginning of the new week, we are also ready to go, we had a good training week so far, pretty focused and concentrated.”

The first meeting of the season between Leeds and Southampton came at St Mary’s earlier in the campaign, with the hosts running out winners that day.

Farke is aware of the tough test his side will face on Saturday lunchtime, with both teams still having the same aim this season.

“We're playing against a really good side who is at 84 points, who will also finish in one of the top positions,” the boss explained.

“Southampton have big names and a really good team. So for that we have to be at our best in order to give ourselves a chance to win some points.

“The training week was good so far and I’m carefully optimistic that we are capable to bring this good training week also into the game on Saturday.

“It's still a chance to finish on top two, we want to try it. If we manage to win the game, it would be the equal record point tally that this club has ever achieved in the whole history.

“It would also be a great reward for the players and if we don't manage to go into the top two, it's always important to have a good result for the confidence.”
