Daniel Farke sure that Billy Gilmour will play “many minutes” despite missing out this week | OneFootball

Chelsea fans weren’t happy when they saw the teamsheets for Saturday’s Norwich Burnley game.

Their prize loanee, Billy Gilmour, didn’t start against Burnley, despite having had another brilliant international break with Scotland.

Daniel Farke was asked about the situation with the midfielder after the game, and he defended his own decisions when it came to using the youngster:

“It’s the wrong picture of what [Gilmour] ]has done. Yes, he was not in the Burnley game or at Everton but, to be honest, he had a difficult pre-season,” Farke explained in quotes picked up by the Metro.

“He came later due to his Covid situation and due to the Euros. He played in the first six games more minutes than any other midfield player for us.

“The first time he was out was for Arsenal because he had played three games for his country and I had to look after this guy a bit.

“Billy is a fantastic player and we are all glad that we have him, he has already many minutes under his belt and I am pretty sure that he will add many minutes under his belt during the season.”

We have no doubts that Farke intends to use him, and that Billy will play plenty more as a busy season rolls on. There are hardly a wealth of options for the Norwich coach to use ahead of him.

What we worry about is whether spending time rotating in and out of a relegation bound Canaries team is really the best learning experience for Billy.

We’d honestly rather have him playing in La Liga or the Bundesliga, learning something new in a more technical team, than being dropped for a Premier League game because he’s not going to be able to head away sufficient balls against Burnley.
