Leeds United produced another strong comeback as they secured a dramatic 3-1 win against Sheffield United on Monday night in the Championship away from home.
With that victory, the Whites have taken a healthy five-point lead at the top, and while there are loads of games left to be played, Daniel Farke’s side are looking like a real deal to secure an automatic promotion this season.
After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, Leeds are determined not to repeat a similar mistake, and they showed great desire and character to come from behind and grab a victory at Bramall Lane.
Leeds trailed by 1-0 at the break, with the host taking an early lead thanks to an error from Illan Meslier.
Farke revealed after the game that he was a bit angry at half-time and spoke about tactical change.
The Leeds boss said: “I was a bit angry at half-time. With Tanaka we changed the pressing a little bit. We spoke about the tactical change and to add a bit more robustness.”
Goals from Junior Firpo, Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe sealed all three points for Leeds, with the final two goals coming within a space of two minutes towards the end of 90 minutes.
Farke was proud of the reaction from the players. Bramall Lane is not an easy place to go, and coming away with a victory in this manner against one of the most in-form teams in the league is very satisfying.
The victory may not be seen as a defining moment in the promotion race, but it is hard to see past Leeds taking the title now after two crucial victories in which they showed the mentality and quality of champions.
