SportBild reports that a contract extension for Dani Olmo can only happen if RB Leipzig qualifies for the Champions League this season.

Talks between Olmo and Leipzig stalled earlier in the month after the 24-year-old hesitated to sign an extension. It is Leipzig’s aim to prevent a sale of Olmo this summer. Olmo’s current contract at Leipzig expires in 2024 after he joined from Dinamo Zagreb in 2020 for €29 million.

With the departure of Christopher Nkunku in the summer and the future of Joško Gvardiol up in the air, Leipzig will not want to lose another one of their prized assets this summer.

Leipzig are currently fifth in the Bundesliga, one point behind Freiburg in fourth. At the weekend they suffered a surprise 1-0 loss away to relegation-fighting Bochum but Freiburg ended up drawing 1-1 to Mainz which minimised the damage.

Olmo recently made his return from injury off of the bench against Bochum and Manchester City. This season, the 24-year-old has played 20 times for Leipzig scoring four times and assisting six.
