It has been almost a month since Dani Olmo signed for FC Barcelona, arriving from RB Leipzig in a deal worth €55 million plus another €7 million in add-ons.

The transfer was not easy by any means, with Barça dealing with financial issues and Olmo attracting strong interest from several other clubs.

However, the 26-year-old Spanish international held on for the Catalans and eventually secured a move back to the club he had left a decade ago as a teenager.

On joining Barcelona

Speaking to RAC1, Olmo revealed that he had made his mind up about wanting to return to Barcelona this past summer and wanted no other club.

“I was clear that I wanted to come to Barça. I knew it was the best option and I didn’t think much about it,” he said.

Once he arrived, though, Olmo had to wait for a couple of weeks to make his debut for Barcelona as the club found it difficult to register him.

But once they did, he finally made his debut in the league game against Rayo Vallecano and scored the match-winning goal on the night.

When asked if he was ever worried about the registration problem, the Spanish international said:

“I knew it would be sorted out. I wanted to play as soon as possible, but I also knew that this situation could happen. In the end, it was the dream debut in Vallecas. Barça showed me that they wanted me.”

On his objectives at Barcelona, having returned a decade after leaving La Masia, Olmo added: “Those who haven’t seen me, will now have the opportunity to do so. With Barça we have clear objectives. Whoever comes to this club has to have a winning mentality.”

On manager Hansi Flick

Dani Olmo then gave a lot of credit to Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, claiming that the adaptation under the German tactician has been very easy for him at the Catalan club.

“He has played a key role. The position where he sees me and where I’ve been playing at Leipzig and with Spain, the connection with players like Pedri or Lamine…,” said the 26-year-old attacking midfielder.

“Everything makes it much easier and that’s why my adaptation has been so quick. He is very clear about what he asks of me,” he added.

On his new teammates

The move to Barcelona saw Olmo reunite with the likes of Pedri and Lamine Yamal, with whom he had already shared the Spanish national team dressing room.

“It’s a pleasure to be able to play with Pedri and Lamine. They are players with whom I’ve always gotten along very well,” he remarked, when asked about the reunion.

Meanwhile, Olmo chose to highlight Raphinha as a player that he has connected very well with since joining Barcelona and went on to praise the Brazilian winger, saying:

“He is a very complete player, a great person. In the dressing room, he helps the youngsters a lot and also helped me when I arrived, and on the pitch, he is a player I like because he works with the conviction that he will be a great help.”

On what he can contribute to the team, he said: “I’m a passer and a goalscorer. In these games, we’ve already seen that I like to team up with other players like Pedri, Raphinha, Lewandowski and Ferran.”
