Dani Alves says he has no issues with former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi closing in on his historic trophy record.

Brazilian legend Alves is the most decorated player in football history, winning 43 trophies in a career which is mostly associated with Barça but has also contained spells with Sevilla, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Messi is closing in on the record following PSG's recent Ligue 1 title triumph. The Argentine icon now sits on 39 trophies, four behind Alves' tally of 43, and the defender posted a graphic on social media in response to his lead shrinking.

He wrote on Instagram: "Life always says: If you are going to be overtaken sometimes, let it be by someone better than you. This post is not for ego, it's just for you to also believe in yourself. Define your destiny and fight every day until you reach the goal!!."

PSG's title triumph was the 11th league championship of Messi's career, with the other ten coming with Barcelona. He has also won the Champions League on four occasions, with the last coming back in 2015.

Messi has had a mostly underwhelming debut campaign for PSG, scoring just four goals in Ligue 1. He has, however, contributed 13 assists for his teammates as they wrapped up the title with four games to spare.

It was manager Mauricio Pochettino's first title, though he is expected to be sacked imminently. 90min understands Zinedine Zidane is the favourite to succeed Pochettino at Parc des Princes, while Antonio Conte has also been linked elsewhere.
