Birmingham City are reportedly interested in signing Norwich City forward Danel Sinani this month.

According to Football Insider, the Blues and Coventry City have both made enquiries about Sinani, whose contract at Carrow Road expires at the end of the season.

Sinani joined the Canaries in 2020 but has struggled for game time, spending time out on loan with Belgian side Waasland-Beveren and Huddersfield Town in the previous two seasons.

The 25-year-old has scored two goals and registered three assists in 18 appearances this campaign, but many of those have come from the bench and he could now be set to depart, with St Andrew’s one possible destination.

Is it a good potential move?

There would have to be question marks over whether this would be a progressive career move for Sinani.

The Canaries are on an upward trajectory under David Wagner and their promotion push is seemingly back on track, while Birmingham are heading in the opposite direction after a poor run of form.

John Eustace’s side have lost their last five league games and currently sit 19th in the table, six points above the relegation zone, with another survival battle looking increasingly likely.

With that in mind, it has to be said that it is not the most attractive move for Sinani and perhaps a switch to Coventry would represent a better option.

Sinani may also be keen to stay at Norwich and fight for his place under Wagner after making two substitute appearances since the 51-year-old’s arrival.

True False

Would he start?

One of the main factors which could convince Sinani to make the move to the Midlands would be the prospect of more game time.

Sinani’s ability to play on the right or the left would increase his chances of receiving minutes, but following the recent arrival of Reda Khadra, the Blues are not in desperate need of additions in the wide areas.

Eustace has also deployed a three at the back system for much of the campaign, so unless he is going to change to accommodate Sinani, it is difficult to see where he would fit in at this point.

What would he offer?

Sinani’s versatility is one of his main assets and it would offer Eustace considerable flexibility with his system and attacking options.

The Luxembourg international had a successful loan spell at Huddersfield Town last season as the Terriers reached the play-offs under Carlos Corberan.

Sinani was a regular for Town with seven goals in 47 appearances, while his goal contributions in limited minutes for the Canaries this season suggest he is a player who could make in impact if given an opportunity.

While he may not be a natural fit for Eustace’s system, Sinani has shown glimpses of his quality and he would provide the Blues with much-needed creativity and a different attacking dimension should he make the move.
