Dan Nlundulu says he is not thinking about his future at Southampton, while he is on loan with Bolton Wanderers.

Having spent the first half of this season on loan from the Saints at Cheltenham, Nlundulu then headed elsewhere in League One in the January transfer window, joining Bolton until the end of the season.

Since then, the 23-year-old has made just two appearances for Ian Evatt’s side, having been hampered by injury since arriving in the North West.

As things stand, Nlundulu will be entering the final year of his contract with Southampton when his time at Bolton comes to an end in the summer.

The Trotters meanwhile, do not have an option to buy installed as part of his current agreement with the club.

However, it seems that the striker is not too concerned with what is happening beyond the end of this season.

Asked is he is thinking about his future at Southampton, Nludnulu told The Bolton News“I don’t want to focus too far ahead because you never know in life. I’m focussing on today, the here and now.

“I don’t want to waste time thinking ‘am I going back to Southampton, am I going to play, am I staying here?

“I am a Bolton player right now and I want to perform for them. When the time comes to it, I’ll have that conversation with Southampton.

“I’m here to score goals and help to get this club promoted – that’s all I need to think about right now.”

Prior to moving on loan elsewhere, Nlundulu had made 16 senior appearances in all competitions for Southapton in all competitions, scoring once.

The Verdict

This feels like the right stance for Nlundulu to take with regards to his future.

He has made this move to Bolton in order to play more regular first-team football, and develop his game as a result of that.

Consequentially, his full focus ought to be on what he is doing for Ian Evatt’s side right now, so as to ensure he gets the most out of his time with the club.

Indeed, if he performs well during his time at Bolton, you imagine he will get plenty more opportunities in the not too distant future, regardless of what happens with regards to his Southampton future.
