Dan-Axel Zagadou isn’t prepared to take any chances as he prepares to return to action with Borussia Dortmund.
The centre-back suffered a ruptured knee ligament back in April and has since played just twice, both in June.
Despite those appearances, which lasted just one and 23 minutes, suggesting the defender was on his way back to fitness, he suffered a setback with his knee and is yet to play this season.
The Frenchman was back on the training pitch this week, though, and is closing in on a return.
“I don’t think I’m quite at 100 percent,” he admitted, suggesting there is no chance he will be involved when Dortmund visit Hertha BSC on Saturday.
“I’ll do parts of the training with the team and then I’ll do some individual work.
“My knee has to be completely completely reliable. And then I’ll be able to help the team. I’m so looking forward to that.”
Zagadou missed two months after the original injury and his relapse has now kept him out of action for three months.
“Three months is a long time,” he added.
“The work isn’t over yet, but I’m doing a lot better.”
Dortmund have had to rely on midfielders Thomas Delaney and Axel Witsel to fill in at centre-back at times this season, with Emre Can and Mats Hummels sidelined at various points.
Now, though, they should have Zagadou back and ready to compete with Hummels and Manuel Akanji for a starting spot.
