Everton’s first season under Marco Silva is in danger of drifting into a vortex of nothingness.
The early optimism has been quickly tempered with the Toffees taking just 33 points so far in the campaign and sitting in a disappointing ninth place.
A recurring theme of Everton defeats have been their complete inability to defend from set-pieces – but when you dig a little deeper into the numbers, the bare facts are even more damning.
They’ve conceded 12 from dead ball situations – the most of any side in the Premier League this season. And 17 in total.
But that’s nothing new for a Marco Silva side.
His time at Hull coincided with them conceding 10 goals in 18 games from set-pieces – the most of any Premier League side in that period.
And at Watford, the total was 12 goals in 24 games, also the most conceded during that period.
But that’s not the end of it.
Sky Sports have done some more digging and showed just how bad Marco Silva sides are at stopping set-pieces.
You can blame the zonal marking all you want but there’s clearly something deeper going on here.
