Daley Blind has insisted he is fit and able to play following his recent health scare with Ajax.
The 30-year-old collapsed during a friendly against Hertha Berlin on 25 August, setting off his implanted defibrillator in the process.
However, the Netherlands international showed no ill-effects from the incident as he completed the full 90 minutes at centre-back in his side’s win at Sparta Rotterdam.
The reason why the implant went off has yet to be determined, but Blind waved away any concerns for his well-being.
“If it’s not safe, the doctors wouldn’t allow it,” he told Fox Sports, per De Telegraaf.
The former Manchester United man accepted there was a psychological effect from the episode.
“But of course you are mentally hit. It’s not nothing,” he said.
“But the support of people in my area does me good.”
Despite having left-back Nicolás Tagliafico sent off in the 27th minute, the Amsterdam giants still managed to open their Eredivisie campaign with a victory courtesy of debutant Antony’s first-half effort.
