Daine Klate is the man expected to take over as Durban City manager

After a illustrious career as a professional player with clubs such as SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates, Dane Clett appears to be about to embark on a new chapter in his career, this time on the coaching bench. Reports indicate that newly promoted Betway Premier League club Durban City FC is in talks to join its technical staff.

Clett, 40, began his coaching career with Chippa United, his hometown club, but the experience was short-lived, lasting only seven matches. He then took over as coach of NB La Masia in the Moseby Foundation League, but left the club in April 2024 and has since been sidelined.

Now, a new opportunity is on the horizon for Clett with Durban City FC, who have achieved promotion to the Premier League under coach Simo Dladla. The club, which is working to strengthen its technical structure, recently appointed Gavin Hunt, a veteran coach who was one of Clet's most influential players during his time at SuperSport United. The club also appointed Ernst Middendorp as technical director, signaling the club's ambition to achieve great things next season.

Clet is considered an ambitious coach seeking to make a mark in the coaching world, especially after learning from some of the best coaches in South Africa. With Hunt and Middendorp at the club, this could be the ideal environment for Clet to hone his skills and leverage his experience as a former player to help the team achieve its goals this season.

South African football fans are eagerly awaiting this move, especially with Durban City returning to the Premier League after a long absence, and the presence of big names in the coaching staff that could add even more excitement to the competition next season.
