Manchester United are mourning the passing of legendary player Sir Bobby Charlton at 86. He played 758 games, scored 249 goals, won the European Cup, three league titles, and the FA Cup with the club. Charlton also had a successful international career, winning the 1966 World Cup with England. He survived the 1958 Munich air disaster and served as a director at Old Trafford for 39 years. His legacy is celebrated worldwide for his sportsmanship and footballing prowess.
A second half brace from Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby. Everton were reduced to 10-men when Ashley Young was shown a second yellow card in the first half, before Michael Keane conceded a penalty for handball for the game’s opening goal. That win momentarily moved Jürgen Klopp’s side top of the Premier League.
There was plenty going on elsewhere in the Premier League on Saturday, with wins for Manchester City, Newcastle, Brentford and Wolves, a dramatic comeback for Luton and four red cards.
VfB Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy scored against Union Berlin to take his tally to 14 goals in eight Bundesliga matches this season, surpassing a record held by Cristiano Ronaldo for early-season goals. If Guirassy maintains this pace, he could break Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga season record of 41 goals this season.
In the Saudi Pro League, 38-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo proved he’s still got it with a stunning free-kick for Al-Nassr, taking his tally to 12 goals and 6 assists in 12 games. The Portuguese superstar doesn’t have a perfect free-kick record but when he gets it right, he really gets it right.
