Euro 2028 hosts confirmed

The United Kingdom and Ireland had their bid to host Euro 2028 formally approved by UEFA on Tuesday. Ten stadia across the five nations will host the matches in five years’ time, with the final expected to be played at Wembley.

Eden Hazard retires

Former Chelsea winger Eden Hazard announced his retirement from football at the age of 32. The Belgian had been without a club since leaving Real Madrid in the summer, having made just 54 appearances following his €115m to the Spanish giants in 2019 due to injury. “You must listen to yourself and say stop at the right time,” said Hazard in a statement.

After he was involved in all four of Chelsea’s goals in their win at Burnley on Saturday, Raheem Sterling has been named our Premier League Player of the Week. The 28-year-old was once again overlooked by Gareth Southgate for the latest England squad, but a few more performances like that one should earn him an international recall.

Vini Jr set for new Real Madrid contract

Real Madrid are poised to announce a contract extension for star winger Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and the extension announcement was delayed when club president Florentino Pérez tested positive for Covid last week. As soon as Pérez tests negative, a formal ceremony is set to take place.

Saudi Arabia targets ‘next Newcastle’

A group linked to the Saudi Arabian state is looking to buy a European club “similar in size” to Newcastle United. The Independent report that Valencia and Marseille have been identified as potential options, but there is no plan to make any purchase through the Public Investment Fund at the moment.
