Arsenal have publicly issued their backing for coach Mikel Arteta following his furious post-match comments in their controversial loss to Newcastle in which he branded the refereeing on Tyneside ‘an absolute disgrace’. The club have doubled down on those sentiments and called on a further review into ‘unacceptable’ officiating.
An early strike and rare Emiliano Martínez blunder, coming off the back of being crowned the world’s best goalkeeper at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, saw Nottingham Forest pick up a surprise win in the first Premier League fixture of the day against Aston Villa.
