Chelsea midfielder Kateřina Svitková said that her feelings were bittersweet after the Czech Republic recorded a surprise goalless draw with England in Brighton last night.

Svitková played the full 90 minutes at The Amex Stadium as Karel Rada’s Czech side frustrated the European champions on their own territory.

The Czech Republic were excellent in defence while they did create one or two chances on the counter attack. When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time after the match, midfielder Svitková admitted that she had mixed feelings about her side’s performance.

“Of course, we are pleased with the result,” Svitková said. “We have drawn with the European champions but on the other hand, I am a little disappointed that we couldn’t take more from our counter attacks and test the opposition goalkeeper. I am a little sad about this but we did manage to draw with them which is really positive.

“When I look back to the SheBelieves Cup when we played the USA, we actually didn’t have any attacks against them. We drew with them but didn’t create anything so this is a step forward for us.

“Hopefully, one day we will get to a major tournament and who knows, maybe we can reach new heights.”

Svitková is now into her third year playing in the Barclays Women’s Super League. She went on to say that her experiences of playing in England left her with no nerves going into last night’s match.

She said “I actually wasn’t nervous at all, I felt good before the game. I already had experience of playing against these players in the league. Why should I be nervous to play against them? I know them, I have already played against everybody here.

“I felt very good but I am just a little sad that we didn’t take any of our chances.”

Svitková made the move to Chelsea over the summer after leaving former club West Ham United. The player said that she feels that she is improving her game and is getting to grips with her new club’s demands.

“I feel that I am improving every day,” Svitková said. “Every training session is hard because every player has amazing ability. You have to give 100% in every session and push yourself every day because the coaches demand high standards from you. They have a greater tactical approach so I have had to get used to that but I am feeling more confident with it as time goes on.”

Svitková will now return to Chelsea ahead of Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Everton.
