Crystal Palace are interested in signing Norwich City midfielder Gabriel Sara in the summer transfer window.

That's according to a report from BBC Sport (28/05, 10:52), who say that the 24-year-old is among a shortlist of potential targets for the Premier League club this summer.

Norwich finished sixth in the final Championship standings this season, but then missed out on promotion to the top-flight of English football in the play-offs.

After a goalless draw at home to Leeds United in the first leg of their play-off semi-final, they were then thrashed 4-0 in the second leg at Elland Road to end their hopes of promotion.

Despite that, it seems there is a possibility that Sara himself could still get an opportunity in the Premier League next season, with interest emerging from Palace.

Crystal Palace considering Gabriel Sara move

Sara joined Norwich back in the summer of 2022 when he signed from São Paulo in his native Brazil for a reported £6 million.

Since then, the midfielder has established himself as a key player for the Canaries. In total, he has scored 21 goals and provided 17 assists in 96 appearances in all competitions for the club.

That though, is starting to attract some significant attention from elsewhere, with the summer transfer window now just weeks away from opening again.

According to this latest update, Crystal Palace have now placed the Norwich midfielder on their shortlist of potential targets for when the market opens.

However, while he is among the players the Eagles have been tracking, no talks have yet taken place, it is claimed.

Palace are not the only ones to have been linked with Sara recently, with Serie A side Roma also among those credited with an interest in the Brazilian.

As things stand, there are two years remaining on the midfielder's current contract with Norwich, securing his future at Carrow Road until the end of the 2025/26 season.

That of course, means that the Canaries do have some scope to negotiate any offer that might come in for Sara during the course of the summer.

Gabriel Sara could be a good signing for Crystal Palace

It does feel as though the signing of Sara would be a good one for Palace to make this summer, if they can get it done.

The midfielder has stood out in his two seasons with Norwich so far, providing an important goal threat from behind the attacking line.

That is a valuable commodity for any team to have, and given the way he has performed in that role, it could be argued that Sara is now ready to step up to the top-flight.

Palace can obviously give him the chance to do that. Considering their success with recent signings from the Championship such as Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise and Adam Wharton, they should also be confident about this being a success if it happens.

The financial strength they have a long-running Premier League club, also means they should feel confident about being able to afford the asking price set out by Norwich this summer.

With all that in mind, it does feel as though those at Carrow Road will be facing a nervous few months when it comes to the future of Sara, given his appeal to clubs such as Palace.
