Chelsea will return to action for the first time in over two weeks when they travel to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Graham Potter has had to be patient in making his league debut, but he got the chance to assess his side when RB Salzburg held the Blues to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League.

Chelsea’s form has caused concerns amongst the club’s fanbase as they headed into the international break seventh in the Premier League table after winning just three of their opening six games.

They managed to grind out a controversial 2-1 victory over West Ham United under former manager Thomas Tuchel, but their performance was less than convincing.

Following a change in managers, the Blues will need to up their game if they plan to come out of the London derby with all three points.

Crystal Palace have also endured a slow start to the season. The Eagles are 16th in the standings, four points behind the visitors, and will be chasing only their second league win this weekend.

Goalkeepers Nick Pope and Vicente Guaita stole the show as Newcastle United and Palace played out a thrilling 0-0 draw before the international break.

The goalless draw ensured Palace recorded their first clean sheet this season and their first on the road since March.

Match Preview

Chelsea

Potter has had enough time to acquaint himself with his squad and will want to make a statement by winning his first league game in charge.

He will need to devise a plan to ensure the Blues significantly improve their performances as they have failed to kill off games which has come back to haunt them more often than not.

They were undone by a late Harry Kane header in the heated London derby last month and scraped their way to victory against West Ham.

Their profligacy in front of goal was on show in the draw with Salzburg as they failed to take their chances to put the game to bed.

Chelsea have only won two of their last seven games in all competitions and are already eight points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.

Despite having a game in hand on the Gunners, Chelsea’s performances have failed to convince anyone that they can secure a top-four finish this season, especially with other big teams finding their form.

Crystal Palace

Palace recorded five consecutive home clean sheets towards the end of last season, but they have conceded in each of their three home games this term.

The Eagles are hovering just two points above the relegation zone, but they have a game in hand on most of the teams around them. They have only suffered one defeat in their last six games in all competitions.

Looking to cause an upset with nothing to lose, Patrick Vieira’s side will fight tooth and nail to get one over an uninspiring Chelsea side.

They may be the underdogs in the tie, but they could come away with at least a point if Vieira can inspire his side to a rousing performance.

Crystal Palace v Chelsea Prediction

Chelsea are still adapting to Potter’s philosophy and style of play, and Selhurst Park may be too hostile for the Blues.

Vieira’s side may feel they can end their losing streak against Chelsea, but we back the Blues to overpower the Eagles and kickstart a potential revival under Potter.

Crystal Palace 1-2 Chelsea.
