Journalist Stuart Hodge isn't surprised to see Odsonne Edouard off to a good start at Crystal Palace – but doesn't expect the former Celtic striker to score 15 goals this season.

After several seasons of uncertainty at Celtic, the Frenchman finally left the club on deadline day when he joined Palace in a £14m deal.

Having scored 88 goals across a four-year spell in Scotland, 15 of which came in various European competitions, Edouard arrived in the Premier League with a weight of expectation on his shoulders.

And the striker took little time to introduce himself to the Selhurst Park faithful by scoring twice in a six-minute substitute appearance as Palace collected their first league victory of the season against Tottenham on Saturday.

He produced two clinical finishes with either foot past his French compatriot Hugo Lloris as the Eagles struck three times in the final 15 minutes to finally get their campaign up and running.

Edouard will be hoping his late brace will earn him a place in the starting XI when Palace travel to Liverpool this weekend.

What did Hodge say about the Frenchman?

Hodge told GIVEMESPORT: "It's no surprise to see him doing well at Palace. Do I expect him to be a guy that gets 15 goals a season for Palace? No, I don't.

"I think he will be a very serviceable player for them, and I don't think any Celtic fan would be surprised to see him do well."

Can Edouard score 15 goals this season?

Only one Crystal Palace player has achieved that feat since their return to the Premier League in 2013-2014, and that was when Christian Benteke scored exactly 15 in his debut season.

It's difficult to predict how Edouard will fare after just one substitute appearance, but he's already made a lightning start in just six minutes of action.

Palace haven't exactly been free-scoring in recent seasons, but when the likes of Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are fit and firing, the chances should be there for Edouard, it's just a case of whether he can put them away.
