Crystal Palace are set to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free transfer from West Brom, 90min understands.

The England international's deal at The Hawthorns expires at the end of June and he has been courted by a number of top flight clubs.

Manchester United and Tottenham both held an interest in Johnstone but neither could give him assurances of playing time, even in cup competitions.

Southampton were also in the race for his signature but instead chose to sign emerging Republic of Ireland international Gavin Bazunu instead.

90min reported last week that Palace were closing in on Johnstone and they now look set to beat Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest to his signature, with the Eagles expected to announce Johnstone's arrival in the very near future.

Johnstone will arrive at Selhurst Park looking to beat 35-year-old Vicente Guaita and former England colleague Jack Butland to the starting spot in Patrick Vieira's side.

At international level, Johnstone has still been called up by England boss Gareth Southgate despite West Brom's relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2020/21 season and he will be looking to work his way into the Three Lions' World Cup squad.
