Crystal Palace have reportedly approached Chelsea about a possible loan deal for youngster Josh Acheampong in the summer transfer window.
Oliver Glasner is seeking to bolster his squad ahead of next season as they prepare to compete in the UEFA Europa League, although fears remain they will be kicked out of the competition.
Regardless, Palace want to improve their backline and will go back to a familiar source to do so, having dealt with Chelsea on a number of loan arrangements in the recent past.
Acheampong could be the latest to temporarily swap Stamford Bridge for Selhurst Park after The Telegraph reported that the Eagles have “enquired” about a potential loan.
The centre-back, who can also play as a right-back, is seen as the “perfect” short-term signing ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. He signed his first professional contract in January 2024.
Acheampong made four appearances in the Premier League last term and was was trusted by Enzo Maresca to feature regularly in the UEFA Conference League, appearing seven times during the team’s run to glory. He has also made one start at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The 19-year-old recently dodged questions about his Chelsea future, insisting that he is fully focused on his football. “I love the club, so I always want to stay at Chelsea and just show what I can do,” he said at the tournament.
Conor Gallagher, Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all enjoyed successful loan spells with Palace over the years. The south London outfit also bought Marc Guehi from the Blues for a transfer fee of £18 million.
