Crystal Palace looking at potential move for Jean-Philippe Mateta (Mainz 05)

Bild report that Crystal Palace are interested in signing 23-year-old Mainz striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer.

The Frenchman has enjoyed a solid two-year spell with Bundesliga outfit Mainz to date having joined from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer of 2018 for €8 million.

Despite struggling this season with injuries that limited his game time, the 6′4″ attacker has scored a total of 17 goals in 52 league appearances over the past two seasons for Mainz.

With Crystal Palace seemingly desperate for a new number nine, talks between the two clubs are already underway with Bild reporting that Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman has already visited Mainz officials in Germany.

The Premier League club will need to pay a fee around €15 million before Mainz consider selling the 23-year-old.
